Want to go to the British Museum in London? Doesn't always work. And certainly not in Corona times. But how about an online visit?

London (dpa / tmn) - Sitting comfortably on the sofa at home and experiencing two million years of human history: No problem. Because there are many ways to experience the British Museum online.

The museum has almost four and a half million objects in its online collection. This collection has been completely redesigned to make it easier for users to find the art objects they're interested in.

There are high-resolution images of many finds that enable detailed viewing - including a deer skin map from North America, a drawing of a man's head by Raphael or an African hunting horn with carvings.

Tours through the rooms

Interested parties can also visit most of the museum's galleries virtually - and walk through individual rooms with the help of Google Street View. If you want to learn more about what's going on behind the scenes, you can download the museum's monthly podcasts.

And if you are particularly enthusiastic about drawings and prints, you can take a detailed look at many of the works in the museum's virtual collection - simply zoom in and see the individual, fine strokes.

Guided tours to find objects

There are also audio tours to certain exhibits - including an introduction to the Parthenon Gallery, a tour of the relief of a lion hunt, or a tour of the David vase.

Users can find suitable photos of the objects online below the tours. The speaker directs the listener's eyes to special details of the vases, reliefs, sculptures and provides background information on the finds.
