The national Ministry of Health confirmed this Sunday another nine deaths from coronavirus, bringing the number of fatalities in the country to 1,490.
They are six men, four of them residing in the province of Buenos Aires, 69, 77 and 81 years old (the age of the rest was not reported), another 87 years old from the City of Buenos Aires and another 70 years old from Neuquén , along with three women: two of 80 and 88 years of age residing in the province of Buenos Aires and one of 67 years of Neuquén.
As usual, Alejandro Costa, Undersecretary of Health Strategies, was in charge of reporting the updated figures for the pandemic in the country. He assured that the case fatality rate is 2%, that there are 32.6 deaths per million inhabitants and that the average age of fatal victims is 75 years.
According to the official, 75,376 people contracted the disease , of which 1.4% was due to a history of travel, 35.2% due to close contact with one case and 46.7% was due to community transmission, mainly in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, Chaco, Neuquén and Río Negro.
In total, 658 people are hospitalized in intensive care . Thus, the percentage of bed occupancy is 51.5.8% nationwide and 57.7% in the metropolitan area, the most affected area in the country.
On the other hand, 27,500 people have already been discharged, which represents 32% of the total infected.
Finally, Costa highlighted the increase in tests carried out throughout the country, with 399,452 in total and 9,072 on Saturday. With these figures, the country reached 8,803 tests for every million inhabitants.
