The info not to be missed

"Chains of transmission, sometimes important, are formed". The latest report from the Directorate General of Health (DGS) published Thursday worries about the number of new daily cases rising sharply. More than 1000 new cases have been identified in 24 hours while for three consecutive weeks this "increase has intensified", according to Public Health France. Another worrying factor: the new clusters caused by family reunification. France now has 120 clusters under investigation. This is 10 more than the day before and 23 more than eight days ago.

What to also remember

  • It's the return of French football! The first official match in France for more than four months between this Friday evening (9:10 p.m.) PSG and Saint-Etienne in the final of the Coupe de France, in front of some 5,000 supporters at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. If the PSG dreams of adding a little more to its trophy cabinet (12 French cups), Saint-Etienne has a golden opportunity to grab a qualifying place for the Europa League.
  • The second term of the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo begins with a surprise resignation in the first month. Thursday at the end of the day, Christophe Girard announced his decision to resign from his post of Deputy Culture. He had been the target for several days of attacks on the part of the environmental group, which were opposed to his renewal following the "friendly" relations that the man had with the author accused of rape of minors Gabriel Matzneff. Anne Hidalgo is “disgusted” and demands “an apology” from her environmental partners.
  • “Take action with regard to officials who […] have gone beyond the performance of their duties”. In a letter written this Friday to Emmanuel Macron, the family of Cédric Chouviat requests the suspension of the police officers recently implicated in the investigation into the death of the deliveryman who died in January in Paris during a road check. A letter which comes a few days after the revelation by several media of a note from the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), which considered that one of the police officers had practiced "a rear strangulation" on Cédric Chouviat.

The unexpected info

"A bad combination of pandemic, social networks and people looking for simple explanations." Bill Gates swept aside during an interview the conspiracy theory which accuses the billionaire of wanting to "eliminate 15% of the population" under the guise of vaccinating it. In fake press articles and a video viewed millions of times on YouTube, the conspirators explain that the disease would serve the interests of the former boss of Microsoft, or even allow chips to be implanted under the skin of patients to follow them on track. The billionaire is one of the favorite personalities of trolls (those who fuel controversy on the Internet) and other conspiracy theorists who offer the craziest explanations for the pandemic.
