(ANSA) - NEW YORK, JULY 25 - Donald Trump canceled the republican convention in Jacksonville, Florida, mainly for financial reasons. The New York Times reports.
On Monday 27 July the deadline for bookings and payments for hotel rooms and services for the event was set. Once the reservations were made, canceling them would have resulted in losses for the Republican party: losses that would have gone to add to those already high in Charlotte, the city of North Carolina initially chosen to host the convention, creating further difficulties for the party.
With his unexpected decision Trump instead avoided this scenario and took advantage of it also politically: the cancellation of Jacksonville was painted to the public as a gesture of responsibility of the president who puts health before everything else. (HANDLE).
