(ANSA) - ROME, JULY 25 - A citizen of Singapore has pleaded guilty in the United States to work as a secret agent on behalf of China: according to the BBC reports, US officials have made it known that the man - Jun Wei Yeo- had been accused of using his political consultancy in the country as a facade to gather information for Chinese intelligence.
    This is the latest episode of the diplomatic escalation between the United States and China which has already led the US administration to close the Chinese consulate in Houston (Texas) and Beijing to close the American consulate in Chengdu. The United States also arrested a Chinese investigator accused of espionage this week.
    Jun Wei Yeo, also known as Dickson Yeo, was arrested last year and yesterday admitted that he had been spying on China since 2015 by collecting confidential information from individuals with high-level security authorizations, believing that they were intended for clients of his consulting company.
