After months of training to learn to recognize the scent of the virus, two Malinois are participating in a screening operation which is to last until Monday in Porto-Vecchio in Corse-du-Sud.
Unlike PCR tests which require a nasopharyngeal sample, a compress is applied under the volunteer's armpit and then placed in a sterilized jar, which the dog is then made to sniff.
The results obtained will be compared with those of the PCR tests in order to validate this unprecedented operation which could provide an additional screening solution.
