A man died after being hit by an avalanche at Cerro Catedral in Bariloche

A Cerro Catedral worker died on Monday as a result of the injuries caused by an avalanche that occurred in the northern sector of the most important ski resort in the city of Bariloche, while another man was injured, but is out of danger. .

The fatal victim was identified as Mario Ruiz , 50 years old and chief of patrollers from Cerro. The worker was rescued and transferred to the San Carlos Sanatorium with a severe trauma to the skull and a pneumothorax, but he died hours later.

"On the day of the date, around 8.30 am, due to the accumulation of snow precipitated in the last days in Catedral, an avalanche occurred in the northern sector of the ski center, while personnel from the Patrol team, highly trained, was carrying out the PIDA (Avalanche Trigger Intervention Plan), "the company Catedral Alta Patagonia reported in an official statement.

Ruiz was moving from one sector to another along with other patrolmen, when there was "an avalanche of plaque near the road known as Intermedia." According to the report, "the snow moved in a cone to the vicinity of the ABC Norte road" and two patrolmen "were caught by the avalanche and had to be rescued"

"One of them had trauma, but was conscious at the time of being evacuated , while the other was quickly transferred to the San Carlos Sanatorium."

Later, a company spokesperson reported Ruiz's death in local media. "I knew safety in the mountains like few others," the Río Negro newspaper reported.
