ROME - Almost 100% surge for avocado and matcha tea in the Italian shopping cart, two products that conquer the first places of the hit parade of the 26 most dynamic beneficial ingredients. To detect it is the seventh edition of the Imagine Nielsen GS1 Italy Observatory where instead the fashions of goji (-18.6%) and spirulina algae (-17%) seem to be setting. An Italy that definitely likes the exotic fruit and the products that contain it: sales increased by 92.9% in one year, totaling 6.5 million euros in 2019; this, after recording + 143.8% between 2016 and 2019. The success of avocado, reports the Observatory, has driven the aggregate of superfruit, that is the products that indicate on the label the presence of almond, blueberry, coconut, coconut water or avocado, making it the most relevant for turnover with almost 762 million euros in sales. A basket where the pink jersey still remains with almond n.1 due to its presence on the shelf. Super success also for matcha tea, with + 99.8% of sales equal to 2.3 million euros, which however is not enough to revive the fate of the aggregate of superfoods which lose 9.4% of value sales. But the family of beneficial ingredients with the highest annual growth (+ 28.5%), the Observatory concludes, is that of the seeds and products that contain them: including flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame, chia seeds and hemp is a world worth 82.1 million euros.
