India, plane crash, at least 20 dead

The death toll from the serious plane crash that took place this afternoon in South India has risen to at least 20 dead. The Hindustan Times reports it. (HANDLE)


    A passenger plane crashed yesterday afternoon while landing at an airport in South India killing at least 20 people.
   The disaster occurred in the Kozhikode airport: the aircraft broke into two sections, ending up in a valley. Among the victims there are also the commander and the second in the cockpit. Dozens of people were injured, many in serious condition.
   Flight 'IX-1344', operated with a Boeing 737 by Air India Express - a company controlled by the national airline - had departed from Dubai and did not make a normal scheduled journey: due to the Covid emergency, India is still closed international flights until 31 August and the flight was part of the national repatriation program for citizens blocked abroad by the coronavirus pandemic.
   A special return trip, which brought home passengers, all Indians, many of them emigrants for work, who had had to wait months before returning home and hugging their families again. Among the 191 on board (including the crew), local media also reported ten children, some of whom, according to the Civil Protection which managed the rescue, are hospitalized in critical conditions.
