Singer Gillan: "Letter from Julias Caesar"

There are niches from which the past simply cannot be driven away. Not from cultural upheavals, not from economic upheavals.
In 1970 it was a matter of course to go to a record shop in a German city center and buy a new LP like "Deep Purple in Rock" on vinyl. In 2020 there will still be side streets in which record stores bravely defy Amazon and Spotify. You can enter and buy Deep Purple's new record there. And now, as in 1970, it is number one in the German album charts. How natural.
Back then "Deep Purple in Rock" was in the company of Simon & Garfunkel ("Bridge Over Troubled Water"), the Beatles ("Abbey Road") or James Last ("Non Stop Dancing"). Today, "Whoosh!", Deep Purple's new album, competes with artists such as Apache 207, KitschKrieg and Taylor Swift.
At the time, Ian Gillan, singer and lyricist for Deep Purple, was 25 years old. Today he is far beyond retirement. On August 19th he celebrated his 75th birthday.
