Not a day goes by without a city announcing that the mask is now mandatory in all or part of its territory. The goal: to limit the spread of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus and to prevent hospital and intensive care services from being again faced with an influx of patients with Covid-19.
This Wednesday, wearing face protection has become the rule in public spaces throughout Marseille. A few days earlier, the same measure had come into force in Nice, Toulouse and Montpellier. And since the beginning of August, this is already the case in a large number of municipalities in Mayenne (which experienced an epidemic resumption from the beginning of July). The decision is generally taken by the prefecture in consultation with the town hall, which can however now decide on its own.
In many other large cities, such as Paris, Lille, Bordeaux and Lyon (since Saturday August 22), the mask is mandatory only in certain districts, as shown in our updated map (but not exhaustive). The criterion chosen is, most often, that of attendance.
Cyclists treated differently in different cities
For the moment, some cities only impose it on markets or during certain events. This is the case for Strasbourg and Béziers but also for all the municipalities located in Haute-Garonne and dozens of others in Brittany, in particular.
The list is intended to grow even further. On May 11, Jean Castex announced his intention to "ask the prefects to extend as much as possible the obligation to wear a mask in open public places".

However, there are still specificities. Cyclists, for example, are not housed in the same boat everywhere. If they too must wear a mask in Toulouse and in the Lyon sectors, this is not the case in the affected areas in Paris. In the capital, however, joggers must submit to it.
