Changes in October 2020: Time change from summer to winter time

The

time change

is probably the best known change in

October

and yet it often hits some people by surprise.

The clocks will be put back one hour on October 25, 2020 at 3:00 a.m.

By changing the time to wintertime *, the time in Germany corresponds to normal Central European Time (CET).

Summer time

has existed in Germany since 1980

.

Originally, this was intended to save energy, since daylight should be better used.

Meanwhile there are more and more opponents of the time change.

The EU Parliament advocates abolishing the

time change

in 2021. However, a compromise would have to be reached with the member states for the actual abolition.

Changes in October 2020: Corona risk areas

If a country or region is considered a

corona risk area

,

a

travel warning from

the Federal Foreign Office

will

automatically

follow from

October 2020

, as announced by the federal government.

That is what the new

regulations

for travel warnings and travel advice provide.

In addition, the federal government continues to provide the following information with regard to corona risk areas:

  • For countries that are designated as a risk area, the travel warning for unnecessary tourist trips continues to apply.

  • If countries are not designated as corona risk areas, unnecessary tourist trips can be discouraged if these countries are subject to entry restrictions to Germany or, conversely, these countries have decided on entry restrictions from Germany.

  • In addition, the following applies to all countries: Travelers are asked to be particularly careful.

Changes in October 2020: Second partial payment of the child bonus

The first partial payment of the

child bonus was

paid out

in September 2020 in

view of the Corona crisis *.

That was initially 200 euros per child.

The second partial payment of 100 euros per child will follow in October.

The federal government had budgeted for costs of around 4.3 billion euros.

The child bonus is an additional support for families in the #CoronaKrisis.

- Federal Employment Agency (@Bundesagentur) July 9, 2020

The child bonus does not count towards other family or social benefits.

Families with low or medium incomes in particular should be able to benefit from it.

Incidentally, the payment date depends on the final digit of the child benefit number.

The Federal Employment Agency has published an overview.

Changes in October 2020: Higher fixed allowance for dentures

For some

consumers

,

October 2020

holds

another windfall in store.

The fixed allowance for

dentures

increases

by ten percent

for

those with

statutory

health insurance

.

So far it was 50 percent of the total price.

Based on the scope of care, this grant increases to 60 percent in October.

Incidentally, with a regular bonus booklet in which the

dentist

visits

are documented, the subsidies from the health insurance companies increase further.

According to calculations by the consumer advice center, the

health insurance

subsidy

for

dentures

can increase from 60 to 70 percent if the bonus booklet has been kept for five years.

In the case of a bonus booklet that has been kept for over ten years, this is even 75 percent.
