Despite the early and extensive quarantine, which is close to 200 days, Argentina became the
seventh country with the most cases
of coronavirus in the world.
This Saturday, the Ministry of Health of the Nation reported
11,129 new infections
, to reach 790,818 since the beginning of the pandemic, thus exceeding the 789,932 in Spain, which faces a "second wave" of infected.
In addition, the evening report of the health portfolio confirmed
another 197 deaths
, which already
reach 20,795
since the arrival of the disease.
Regarding the world "ranking" of infections, Argentina is only below the United States, India, Brazil, Russia, Colombia and Peru.
However, if the positive rate per million inhabitants is taken into account, which in the country
is 17,211
, it is also surpassed by Qatar (44,996), Bahrain (41,845), Israel (28,751), Panama (26,308) and Chile (24,453), among others.
At the same time, Argentina is one of the countries with the
fewest tests
, just over two million, which is equivalent to 44,822 tests per million people, only ranking above nations such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nepal, Ethiopia, Ghana and Nigeria.
Regarding deaths, the national territory has
455 deaths per million inhabitants
.
In contrast, Spain registers 686 fatalities per million;
UK 622;
Italy 595, Sweden 583 and France 492.
Soledad Retamar, researcher at the Concepción Regional Faculty of Uruguay of the National Technological University (UTN), remarked that a greater number of the elderly population in European countries had an influence on swelling the list of deaths because, she recalled, "is a risk factor for the coronavirus ".
Regarding the possible causes of the high rates of registered local cases, Retamar pointed out that "we have much more mobility and fewer restrictions at the time of greatest circulation of the virus."
"In Europe they reached very high values in a short time and really closed when they had a greater circulation of the virus; here, we isolated ourselves when we had few cases, which allowed us to improve our health system and medical training, but now, with the virus circulating, we have more and more openings, "he said.
