The two half-siblings met in the royal residence at Schloss Laeken: The new Belgian princess Delphine of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha met her half-brother, King Philippe, as reported by the Belgian media.
"Our encounter was warm," said a joint statement on Thursday.
Accordingly, the meeting took place on Friday last week.
"We had the opportunity to get to know each other during a long and intensive exchange that enabled us to talk about our respective lives and our common interests," it said.
The connection will now develop in a "family framework".
After years of litigation, Delphine was recognized earlier this month by a court judgment as the daughter of the Belgian ex-King Albert II.
The court awarded her the title of Princess of Saxe-Coburg.
So she is the half sister of King Philippe.
So far, the 52-year-old artist had the last name Boël.
Years of struggle for recognition
The artist has been fighting since 2013 in court for recognition as the daughter of the Belgian ex-king.
According to her account, her mother and Albert had a long affair decades ago, which Albert always denied.
In January he gave in and professed paternity.
The court had previously ruled that Albert had to undergo a DNA test.
During all this time she felt like she was on the battlefield, said Delphine von Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha, according to the Belga news agency: "All this energy is stressful."
The judgment shows that if you stand up for what is good, you will be rewarded.
At the same time, the 52-year-old had announced that she did not expect anything from her father Albert II, her brothers or her sister.
"I wish you good luck and health."
