(ANSA-AFP) - MADRID, OCTOBER 25 - The Spanish government has declared a state of health emergency throughout the country to address the new spike in coronavirus cases. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced it. The new state of health alert provides for a curfew from 11pm to 6am in all Spain except the Canary Islands. For the moment it will remain in effect for 15 days but Sanchez's goal is to stay in effect until May. "Our proposal, which will have to be discussed, will be to extend the state of alarm for six months, until May 9", underlined the premier speaking live on television. "We already know what to do" against the coronavirus: "Stay home as much as possible," said Sanchez. "We are not in lockdown, but the longer we stay at home, the more protected we will be", said the premier. The goal of the new state of emergency is to bring the number of infections to less than 25 for every 100,000 inhabitants. At least in Spain there are 400 cases of coronavirus for every 100,000 inhabitants. (ANSA-AFP).
