Even the day after the attack in Vienna, Mikail Özen is still in shock.
He saw the attack in Vienna up close.
A heavily armed terrorist killed four people and injured many in the city center on Monday evening.

We came from there, we zigzagged from there, to the phone booth. We stood there for a moment. There were also police officers who shouted: 'Back, back.'

But the two friends see injured people on the ground and intervene.
In a video from the night, Mikail tells what was going on.

"Suddenly shots rang out. People were lying on the ground covered in blood. We helped an old lady. That brings her to safety, we brought her to a safe place. We also saw a police officer badly hit is, he was lying on the ground. We just couldn't watch and we ran over there. We shouldered the police officer and drove them to the ambulance "
The attacker was armed with an assault rifle and also wore a dummy explosives belt.
The police are now assuming an attack with an Islamist motive.

"Then we went to safety with a friend up there on the first floor. We stayed there until dawn."
For their selfless commitment during the attack, the two friends are now celebrated as heroes on social networks.
The Turkish born Mikail Özen has another message:

"As a Muslim of Turkish origin, I want to say one thing: I live in Austria, I was born here. I went to school in Austria. I learned my trade in Austria, I also work here. We detest all kinds of terror. They are not people who do something like that. If something like that happened again, I would do it again. "
