After the escalation of protests against Corona measures in Leipzig, calls for a political reappraisal of the events are loud.

The Greens in Saxony demanded consequences: "Saxony's security organs lost all trust in (the demonstration) # le0711. Roland Wöller's inaction as Minister of the Interior is no longer acceptable," wrote the party on Twitter.

"There is a lot to work on!" Wrote the left-wing group on Twitter on Saturday evening.

The SPD member of the state parliament, Albrecht Pallas, also called for an evaluation in a special meeting of the interior committee.

Saxony's Interior Minister Roland Wöller (CDU) criticized the approval of the "lateral thinking" demonstration by the Higher Administrative Court (OVG): It was irresponsible to allow such a gathering with more than 16,000 people in the times of the corona pandemic in downtown Leipzig.

"We experienced a potential super-spreader event"

The police announced on Saturday evening that they had initiated 32 administrative offense proceedings and recorded seven criminal offenses - including forgery, insults and resistance to law enforcement officers.

According to the camp center, the situation was calm early on Sunday morning.

The left spoke on Twitter of state failure and an event with many dimensions.

"We have experienced a potential super-spreader event," tweeted the party's Saxon state association.

"We saw how at this event valid hygiene requirements were consistently ignored under the eyes of the police."

In Leipzig on Saturday at least 20,000 people from all over Germany protested against the federal government's corona measures.

At first, the rally on Augustusplatz was mostly peaceful.

Then the city of Leipzig broke up the protest because many people did not wear a mouth and nose cover and did not keep the minimum distance.

But thousands resisted the dissolution and marched on the inner city ring.

Police spokesman Olaf Hoppe said the crowd was allowed to pull over the ring because they could only have been held back by using massive force.

There have been several arrests.

"The escalation and the reckless behavior of the so-called lateral thinkers are shocking. They are chaotic," wrote Saxony's Minister of Economics, Martin Dulig (SPD) on Twitter.

The city had actually wanted to move the demo to the outskirts to protect against infection.

The administrative court in Leipzig had confirmed this, the OVG decided differently: It allowed a rally with 16,000 participants.

Elevators were not allowed.
