(ANSA) - NEW DELHI, NOV 12 - Delhi has recorded more than 8,500 new cases of Covid in the last 24 hours, the highest level reached so far, and one of the most worrying data in the entire country.
The Indian capital is currently facing the third wave of the infection, after a period of stability of about one month: the peak has created new pressure on hospitals, where half of the beds available, according to data from the city administration, are already occupied.
Governor Arvind Kejriwal asked the federal government to make more places available in state hospitals and this morning obtained permission from the High Court to "requisition" 80% of the intensive care places available in 33 private clinics in the city for Covid patients .
India, with over 8 million 600 thousand cases, is the second most affected country in the world by the pandemic.
The new case curve has been down since mid-September when new daily positives plummeted from nearly 100,000 to 37,000 per day.
According to the Ministry of Health, in the last five days the daily count of new infections has settled under 50,000: yesterday 48,200 were registered. (ANSA).
