Today is International Student Day, in this 2020 of the Covid era.

At 3 pm, in Rome, boys and girls will mobilize under the eyes of Parliament and the Government "to teach the parliamentarians a lesson".

"After years of demonstrations against school cuts and appeals to request more funding, students will try to explain that resources must be invested in schools and young people, going to Montecitorio armed with chairs and a blackboard", explains the Student Network.

Girls and boys of the Medium Students Network, supported by the Priority to School movement, will set up a class in front of the Chamber and for a day they will play the role of the most famous parliamentarians in the country while listening to a lesson, given by students, on how they think funding must be spent.

Topic of the lesson: Next Generation EU and Budget Law.

"For years we have been suffering the consequences of the dismantling of the school system - explain the organizers - the virus, however, has made it even clearer how much the public school needs a serious investment plan both in budget law and through the Next Generation EU. this we have decided to return to Montecitorio, to encourage the government to act and listen to us ".

"I say it bluntly: you don't have to pay the highest price for this emergency."

Thus the Minister of Education

Lucia Azzolina

in a letter in La Stampa addresses school children on the occasion of International Students' Day.

"It is you students that the country must give the highest priority now - he observes - by looking at your rights today, but also thinking about tomorrow: at school, and it is not rhetoric, the future is built, a future that walks on your legs. That's why I am working to reopen as soon as possible the schools that have started digital teaching, but I am also working to ensure that others do not close in recent weeks.

"You know, closures and openings of schools are not decided by the Ministry of Education - adds Azzolina - we need teamwork, together with the heads of local authorities and the presidents of the Region. Administrators whose concerns I understand: they have enormous responsibilities and they work every day for the safety of their citizens. I'm calling them one by one. We must all agree that leaving you at home would be a defeat for the whole community. Working together, as politics does when it focuses on good of the citizens, we can do it. I am convinced that it will be so. We owe it to you ".
