(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 17 - In September Istat estimates a growth for exports (+ 2.7%) and a slight decline for imports (-0.6%), compared to August.
The increase in exports on a monthly basis, indicates the Institute of Statistics in foreign trade data, is due to the marked increase in sales to non-EU markets (+ 8.1%), while those to the EU area are down (- 2.1%).
On an annual basis, exports instead recorded a growth of 2.1%, due to the increase in sales to the non-EU area (+ 2.8%) and, to a lesser extent, to the EU (+ 1.4%). .
Imports still show a decline, albeit in marked attenuation (-6.4%, it was -12.6% in August), determined in particular by the drop in purchases from the non-EU area (-12.3%), while that from EU area is much more contained (-1.9%).
In the third quarter, compared to the previous one, exports recorded an increase of 30.4%, while imports grew by 21.7%.
Therefore, in September "the phase of recovery towards the levels of the beginning of the year of Italian exports continues, which records a new economic increase, supported by foreign trade with non-EU countries, and returns to grow on an annual basis for the first time from February 2020", is the comment of Istat.
In September, it is also estimated that the commercial balance will increase by 3,136 million euros (from + 2,686 million in September 2019 to +5,849 million).
Finally, as regards import prices, in September they increased by 0.5% compared to August and decreased by 5.3% on an annual basis (it was -5.8% in August).
