It was a routine appointment.
On Monday morning, officers took Christian B. out of his cell in the prison in Kiel, where he is currently serving a prison sentence for drug trafficking.
From Kiel there was a hearing on the penal enforcement chamber in Braunschweig.
Because the 43-year-old suspect in the case of Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in 2007, had applied for early release.
In a demonstration cell, according to the statements of the officers involved, there should have been an argument with the two law enforcement officers.
According to SPIEGEL information, Christian B. is said to have resisted when the officers tried to shackle him.
Thereupon there was a scuffle in which Christian B. either fell unhappy or was brought down.
According to initial findings, a baton was not used by the officials in the scuffle, it is said internally.
After the physical confrontation, the sex offender with multiple criminal records complained of chest pain and was taken to hospital.
There were two broken ribs in Christian B.
The hearing then took place an hour late.
His lawyer Friedrich Fülscher, who was also on site, filed a criminal complaint about the incident.
In the summer, the Braunschweig public prosecutor announced that Christian B. was being investigated for the disappearance and murder of Madeleine McCann.
The then 3 year old girl disappeared in May 2007 from a holiday home in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
At that time Christian B. was living in Portugal.
A cell phone number assigned to him was logged into a cellular network in Praia da Luz shortly before the crime.
However, the evidence in the Madeleine McCann case is not yet sufficient for an arrest warrant against Christian B., who has had multiple criminal records for child abuse.
B. is serving a prison sentence for rape in Kiel.
