Researchers at Cardiff University in Wales have shown that cetylpyridinium chloride, one of the active ingredients in many mouthwashes, kills the virus from human mouths within 30 seconds.

The substance, which is in a 0.07% solution, was tested in the laboratory of Dentil, a company that produces mouthwashes, under conditions reminiscent of human mouth and throat - and the results were very promising.

Due to the results of the experiment, an experiment will be conducted at the University Hospital of Cardiff to test whether rinsing with mouthwash removes the viral load of the corona over time from the mouths of humans.

Professor David Thomas, who is conducting the study, explained that "it is important to note that our study will not be able to show the effect of mouthwash when it comes to actually reducing the transmission of the virus. To do that, we need much more huge research beyond our initial test. "Mouthwash on the condition of the mouth and human throat in terms of the culture of the virus in them. That is, how much mouthwash reduces the presence of the virus in a person.

Dr. Nick Claydon, a dental and gum specialist, welcomed the study, noting that "if Cardiff University's results continue to grow, then along with hand washing, social alienation, and wearing masks we will have another tool to prevent the spread of the virus - using mouthwash." .
