Jennifer Lopez
and Nuyorican Productions won a legal battle that began last May due to a lawsuit brought by
Samantha Barbash
, a dancer whose story inspired the making of the film 'Hustlers'.
As reported by 'TMZ', Barbash filed a lawsuit of $ 40 million against JLo for economic exploitation of his life story and defamation, due to the trafficking of narcotic substances of the character of Lopez in the film.
Finally, after ten months of legal confrontation, the law ruled in favor of the STX distributor, Gloria Sanchez Productions, Lopez's Nuyorican Productions, Pole Sisters LLC, and 10 John & Jane Does, who had been sued for compensatory and punitive damages.
The New York magistrate assured the 'Entertainment Weekly' news portal that Ramona's character is the product of a fiction that was based on the real story of a group of female
strippers
and had as reference an article published in 'New York Magazine' ago years.
The court determined that, although the tape was based on the article 'The Hustlers at Scores' published by journalist
Jessica Pressler
in 2015, which detailed Barbash's participation in a similar plot, it did not use the "name, the portrait, image or voice "of Barbash.
It is worth mentioning that
Alex Rodriguez's
fiancée
was nominated for the 2020 Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actress for her participation in the film directed by
Lorene Scafaria
.
Starring in 'Hustlers' brought many good things to JLo, and the most surprising of all is that the 51-year-old star did not charge a single dollar for giving Ramona life.
"They didn't pay me a lot of money for 'Hustlers'. I did it for free and produced it," the interpreter revealed to 'GQ'.
"Like Jenny from the Block - I do what I love," he added.
So far, the artist has not commented on the matter.
However, this good news comes at a great moment in his career, as on November 22 he will perform at the American Music Awards with
Maluma
.
JLo and the Colombian will sing for the first time live on stage their most recent musical collaboration entitled 'Pa' ti + Lonely '.
These songs were written together by the singer of Puerto Rican origin and Maluma, and are part of the soundtrack of the film that they both star in, 'Marry Me'.
A few days ago, Jennifer Lopez herself announced that because the COVID-19 pandemic has affected operations in movie theaters, the launch of her new film will be delayed.
"#ChangeTheDate You are invited to @MarryMeMovie on May 14, 2021!" She wrote on Instagram.
