In the video: An Israeli study identified a declining trend in sperm quality in men around the world
In recent years, studies have been accumulating that indicate an alarming trend in the quality and sperm count of men around the world.
Therefore, studies like the one we will immediately tell you about are particularly good news.
A new study has found a link between nut consumption and improved men's sperm quality.
The study, published in the journal Andrology, found that men who ate a routine Western diet and added a mixture of nuts to it on a daily basis for a period of 14 weeks showed an improvement in their sperm count and function.
The researchers found that the dietary change affected the way our cells encode DNA, but without altering the DNA itself.

Environmental factors and lifestyle have long been marked as having an impact on sperm quality, and as a result on fertility as well.
These factors can cause changes in the cell by methylating the DNA. That is, in this process, groups of methyl are added to the DNA molecule, and affect its expression in the body - for better or worse.
Alcohol consumption, drug use and smoking - all were found to be factors that negatively affected sperm DNA expression, however regarding the effect of diet there were not enough studies with established findings.
A little of it every day, for 3 months.

In the new study, the researchers conducted a randomized trial to see if and how consumption of nuts affects DNA methylation in sperm cells. They named their study FERTINUTS, a free translation. For the experiment, 72 young, healthy, non-smoking volunteers were recruited. 48 men received a daily dietary supplement of a variety of nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts. The rest of the volunteers were in the control
group. The researchers compared the methylation rate among the experimental group participants to that of the control group, who did not consume nuts in their diet. Significant change in the trial period among the men who received the addition of the nuts to their diet. No control changes or effects on sperm DNA were observed in the control group.
Certain regions in the sperm genome respond to dietary change and improve sperm count and function.

Istanbul is open - this is the time for a natural and permanent solution to male pattern baldness
A study conducted in 2018 has already suggested that adding a variety of nuts to an average Western diet may improve sperm quality in healthy men of childbearing age, but the mechanism that creates this positive effect was not part of that study.
Even then, the researchers argued that the improvement in sperm quality was the result of less fragmentation and changes that occur during the methylation process of sperm DNA.
The new study shows that there are indeed regions in the sperm genome that react following consumption of nuts, changing sperm and improving its fertility. It's not yet clear which exact nutrients are present in the nuts that improve sperm quality, but researchers suspect that folic acid and genistin - two substances found in nuts - have something to do with it.
