The regional court of Limburg has sentenced a 33-year-old to nine years in prison for an intentionally caused truck accident with 18 injured.
The presiding judge said the act was to be regarded as attempted murder and dangerous physical harm.
The court thus imposed a tougher verdict than the public prosecutor's office demanded.
This had pleaded for attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm to a sentence of six years and ten months, the defense attorney for two years for assault.
The court ordered the man, who was under the influence of drugs at the time, to be placed in a detention center.
The court also imposed a ban on acquiring a driver's license.
In the act in October 2019, the Syrian drove the hijacked truck into parked cars at a red light and injured 18 people.
