If all goes according to plan, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is due to discuss today the issuance of an emergency permit for Pfizer's corona vaccine, and according to estimates - approve it for use.

In preparation for this important discussion, this week the organization published a document detailing data from the Phase 3 trial of the vaccine.

The 53-page report published shows in graphs and tables that the vaccine works well in all sex, age and comorbidity groups.

And the best part - it works quickly and efficiently already in the first dose of the vaccine.

One graph that caught the attention of many people shows how fast and how consistently the vaccine provides significant protection.

The data show that about two weeks after the first dose, the vaccine is effective and that the protection is not reduced for at least two months.

Greater long-term efficiency will be assessed as more data is collected.

How exactly does Pfizer's promising vaccine work?

To the full article

A very important part of Phase 3 trials concerns the monitoring of when people contract the disease, both in the control group receiving placebo (a placebo) and in the vaccine group.

According to these data, researchers are discovering the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Pfizer's vaccine showed 95 percent higher efficacy than expected.

And as can be seen in the graph, this shows the amazing difference in the number of infections between the vaccinated population (in blue) and the population that received a placebo (red).

The data show that the most common side effect is pain and redness for a week after the injection, which was experienced by about 80 percent of vaccine recipients.

One percent of all vaccinated people described the pain as severe.

People over the age of 55 were less likely to find the vaccine painful.

As mentioned, Pfizer's vaccine consists of two vaccine doses that are given three weeks apart.

Pfizer's vaccine was approved for use by the UK regulatory agency last week, and vaccinations began last Tuesday.

A day later, a recommendation was issued by the kingdom's drug control authority calling on those suffering from acute allergies to avoid Pfizer's vaccine for Corona, after two vaccinated people developed an allergic reaction to the vaccine.

The health services explained that this is acceptable in cases of new vaccines and that it is only a precautionary measure.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel will begin vaccinating on December 27, and today a plane is expected to land at Ben Gurion Airport carrying several hundred thousand doses of Pfizer vaccines. .
