(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 09 - Teaching at home with distance learning (Dad) can be a source of risks or opportunities: it depends on the students, on their character, ability to organize and spirit of sacrifice.

But if for those who have more potential, studying in the room in front of a PC frees up time for hobbies and passions, for the more fragile it becomes a reason for criticism.

But everyone loses in relationships.

After months of distance learning, due to the Covid-19 emergency, to take stock of the repercussions for the youngest, identifying some advice for parents, is Antonella Elena Rossi, psycho-pedagogist led by Miur, head of the OPERA welfare project, Observatory for education in respect and self-esteem, of the Municipality of Verona.

"With distance learning, adolescents risk losing a lot both at a cognitive and relational level - explains the expert - In particular, the most fragile children and with greater academic difficulties, losing the relational part, are leaving the ranks, often turning on the PC but they leave the video off and go out of the house. For this reason, a recommendation to parents is to be compact, without discrediting themselves, leaving aside any difficulties in the couple. The most diligent children, on the other hand, in distance learning work better: having already internalized a good organization, they get rid of schedules and gain time to associate their hobbies with studying, as if they were already at university. But everyone lacks the relationship, they lack classmates. For this reason we should make sure to go back to school at least a couple of days a week ".

But what can you gain by studying in a room and what can you lose without returning to school?

"One thing that young people are learning to know is boredom, an important companion for stimulating creativity - continues the educational psychologist -. While a bad habit not to take is to lose routine and in this parents must help. Distance learning does not. can lead to loss of space-time cognition. Kids who were not doing well in school or who were shy but eager to do are catching up because they can take their learning time, while worrying about the gap that will be created for those who had gaps and is accumulating new gaps that are difficult to fill. Unfortunately, distance learning requires commitment and concentration to which adolescents are no longer used. We must encourage children by staying a step back and avoid too many compliments, with the new mantra 'you can do it' " .

In addition, the expert concludes, "it is essential to overlook unnecessary things, such as arguing with children over the disorder in the house: if a child manages to keep pace, be respectful and talk to his parents it is already a great success".
