For 8 minutes, the violinist Renaud Capuçon played in a supermarket in Chambéry (Savoie) "because culture should never be lost.

“Because culture must never stop” and because supermarkets are open, unlike theaters, violinist Renaud Capuçon offered a mini-concert of classical music to customers of a Carrefour store in Chambéry ( Savoy).

The video he posted live at 6 p.m. on Tuesday on Twitter was immediately seen by thousands of people.

In the image, we see the musician arriving alone with his violin in front of the book section of the hypermarket, setting up his desk, taking out his violin, and playing, in front of piles of volumes by Barack Obama and Marc Lévy.

"I was just there to play music and the video was live", confided Renaud Capuçon, whom we contacted after his performance, and who did not want to comment on his gesture, adding only that he had performed pieces by Bach, "the Meditation of Thaïs" by Jules Massenet and "la Mélodie à Orphée" by Gluck.

In front of the customers, whose faces we cannot see but whose applause we can hear, he played more than 8 splendid minutes.

Just before the concert, at 5:45 pm, Alexandre Bompard, the president of Carrefour, tweeted: “We had a little idea with Renaud Capuçon… To be followed live in a few moments.

"

He had arrested Roselyne Bachelot

A committed musician, Renaud Capuçon had questioned the Minister of Culture on Twitter in mid-October just after the announcement by Emmanuel Macron of a curfew for at least 4 weeks.

“How can we save cultural and musical life in France?

Should the concerts be rescheduled for 6 p.m.?

Will the public follow?

So many questions… Dear Roselyne Bachelot, we are counting on you to enlighten us, ”Laurence Ferrari's husband tweeted.

“Dear Renaud, it is once again a terrible shock that the pandemic imposes on us.

I am at work and from tomorrow with the representative organizations I will put in place the essential support measures.

We are going to overcome this new ordeal together, ”the Minister replied.
