From 'Fucking' to 'Fugging':
the inhabitants of an Austrian village previously called Fucking have decided to change the name of their town, which becomes "Fugging" in the hope of putting an end to embarrassment and misunderstandings and escape the spasmodic interest of Internet users that the original name seems to feed.
The name change has been decided by the city council, has announced the same, and will be applied starting from 1 January 2021.
Fucking is located about 350km east of Vienna,
has about a hundred souls, but over the years there are many more people who have stopped in front of the sign that marks the entrance to its municipal territory which, if for the residents it only indicates the name of their village, for the rest of the world the writing evokes the well-known insult in English.
The change of name was not an easy undertaking, however, for a long time the majority was not reached to be able to proceed, with the residents near the sign declaring themselves in favor of changing their name while those who live further inside the village preferred not to.
