During his press briefing, the Director General of Health Jérôme Salomon said that the health authorities have detected 18,264 new infections with the new coronavirus, against 17,615 on Wednesday and 11,532 on Tuesday.
"A tendency to increase after a plateau", he declared while insisting on the simultaneous rise in power of screening.
"We are entering a high-risk season," he also warned, referring to the arrival of winter temperatures and the end of the year celebrations.
2808 patients in intensive care
The sharp decline in intensive care admissions is also running out of steam.
2808 patients struck by a serious form of the disease remained supported this Thursday in these specialized services.
They were 2840 Wednesday and 2871 the day before.
As for hospitalizations, the authorities' figures show a total of 25,182 patients treated due to contamination with covid-19, against 25,282 on Wednesday.
In the last 24 hours, 1,362 new admissions have been recorded in hospital services.
Over the same period, 258 people lost their lives in hospital as a result of the disease, against 292 deaths deplored on Wednesday and 314 on Tuesday.
Since the start of the epidemic, 59,619 deaths have been recorded in France, including 41,200 in hospitals.
