After the comings and goings generated by Vladimir Putin's sayings that the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus was not yet approved for people over 60, the Government assured this Friday that the authorities of that country have already recommended expanding the age range of application.
"The recommendation so far with Sputnik V is to vaccinate until the age of 60 because they were finishing analyzing the data. They confirmed that they analyzed the data and already recommended extending the age to vaccinate and they were in the last stages to expand that recommendation," he said. Carla Vizzoti, Health Secretary Carla Vizzotti, who is in Moscow as part of the Argentine delegation that will close the arrival of these vaccines to the country.
"It is important to clarify that from Argentina from the first day we had knowledge of this situation and that we estimate that as now we are going to start vaccinating health personnel, it will be possible to start vaccinating until the indication is formally indicated and to continue with all the steps as is planned ”, added Vizzotti.
"We hope that
by March we can have a significant percentage of the population with the highest risk immunized
to reduce the first objective, which is to reduce morbidity and mortality in Argentina," the official added during an interview with the website Russia Today.
Vizzotti highlighted the visits to the Gamaleya production center in which the Anmat members carry out inspections in search of an "emergency use authorization".
"This visit is to advance in the
logistics of the transfer
and the technical verification of the Anmat that on a regular basis, when it has to register vaccines or medicines, it makes an inspection of the plants in the country that produces," explained the health official.
Despite the confusion surrounding the Russian vaccine, Vizzotti made his support clear: "We know that Russia is a powerhouse in science and technology. Our President has thanked Russia for supporting our country."
Regarding the possible date to be able to carry out the transfer operation, Vizzotti said that there are several flight reservations with Aerolineas Argentinas as
of December 22
.
"It was always the idea that Aerolineas Argentinas bring vaccines, they have very oiled logistics,
there is a very strong team from a technical point of view
. They work with a logistics company that takes them to the airport," he added.
The first safe shipment will be that of -18 degrees and we will wait if they have thermostability data in January and we can simplify vaccination, "he added.
Vizzotti also said that the first shipment will be 300,000 doses.
"Until now we have the possibility of having doses to vaccinate between 20 and 25 million people between January and June 2021. Like most countries, we calculate between 6 and 8 months to reach an interesting population," he said.
“First, health, security, armed forces personnel will be vaccinated and then people over 60 years of age.
Another priority group is the teaching and non-teaching staff and then based on the availability of doses and information on the vaccine in different populations ”, he specified.
Finally, he referred to the alleged prohibition of alcohol consumption after the application of the vaccine: "The recommendation for all vaccines, not Covid alone, is that
when one consumes alcohol in excess and chronically loses the immune response
in relation to generating antibodies. Moderate alcohol consumption after having been vaccinated has no impact on vaccination. "
