The research team from the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen has developed a predictive model for the likelihood of a positive
corona test
- with an
interesting side result
: people who
smoked
more than
10 cigarettes a day
had a significantly low probability of a positive test result.
In other words: smokers contracted

A
study from France came
to a comparable result in the spring.
It showed that the proportion of smokers among those infected with corona and Covid 19 was significantly lower than the existing proportion of smokers in the population.
After a corona infection, the disease is often more severe in smokers
One
possible explanation
is: Nicotine causes a change in the receptors of the cells in smokers, which
SARS-CoV-2 also
uses to penetrate the cells and multiply there.
Nicotine
could therefore ward off Corona.
However
, it is not yet possible to conclusively say
whether
smokers
really get sick from the virus less often.

smoking protects against corona.
On the contrary: if a smoker becomes infected with the virus, the disease is usually
much more severe
than in non-smokers.
This is proven by several scientific studies.
