The strikers' strike is illegal and can be reduced from their wages for the days they will not work - according to a directive sent by the finance commissioner to the director general of the Ministry of Health and hospital directors.

Tomorrow (Monday) the interns 'organization is expected to suspend the interns' work in the hospitals in protest of the length of the shifts, which currently stands at 26 hours.

In recent days, hospital directors have approached the Ministry of Finance and asked how to handle the issue.

The answer of Efi Malkin, the deputy supervisor of wages, indicates that a registry organization is not the representative organization of employees.

"I will make it clear that the Medical Association, the representative organization of the workers, did not declare a labor dispute," he noted.

"Therefore, if a strike is taken it will be unprotected. Therefore, a doctor who participates in sanctions or a strike violates his employment contract, which exposes him to tort liability and disciplinary enforcement," he wrote.

The implication that emerges from the position of the Treasury is that it is possible to deduct from the salaries of the striking workers and even take disciplinary proceedings against them (an exceptional step that is not expected to be used).

Also, the strike when it is unprotected exposes the interns to tort liability.

The Deputy Supervisor of Wages at the Ministry of Finance also asked the hospital directors to report the scope of the steps and the salary that will be deducted for them.

At this stage, the health system estimates that the scope of the strike will not be large.

One of the hospital directors said today: "This is an illegal strike, organized by a non-representative organization. I was informed that the interns intend to 'start' and present sick certificates to be absent. I am in favor of changes in the shift model, but the move is not done correctly. "The Histadrut on the issue of shortening shifts. Why go on strike now? It creates antagonism."

"Give us basic rights"

The prescription interns' organization is preparing for a big strike tomorrow, when interns from all the hospitals in the country will work on a Saturday basis.

Dr. Ray Bitton, Chairman of Prescription: "The vaccine that will save our lives and the lives of patients is in the hands of the Minister of Health! We have reached the limit of our ability. We are collapsing, falling off our feet, and unfortunately corona vaccines, important and blessed We came to it because of 26 hours of duty. "

Dr. Bitton added: “We are struggling on the foundation - to sleep, go to the bathroom, lead a normal life and be better doctors, ones who can give the treatment to anyone who needs it.

"26-hour shifts hurt us physically and mentally and also affect our patients."

Presidency chairman criticized Health Minister Edelstein's conduct: "Taking a photo while receiving a vaccine may be good for ratings, but giving us our basic rights is the minister's duty no less than giving / receiving the vaccines.

The attempt to dissolve our struggle under the smokescreen of the celebration of vaccines - important as they may be - will not succeed.

We are determined and stronger than ever and we will not stop until the minister orders the start of pilots in at least 10 hospitals, with a set deadline for their start and expansion. "

A protest demonstration will be held tomorrow at 11:00 in the Habima plaza in Tel Aviv.

Dr. Bitton stressed: “We are backed by hundreds of senior physicians, hospital administrators and department heads.

The threats do not bother us. "
