An unprecedented production of the musical fairy tale Pierino e il lupo by Sergej Prokof'ev realized with the Orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice broadcast for free in streaming on the ansa.it website and on the YouTube channel of the Teatro La Fenice on Friday 25 December at 16.00 and available on the YouTube channel of the Venetian Theater for the whole of 2021. It is the Christmas gift to children and their families from the Teatro La Fenice Foundation and Generali through the Valore Cultura program which aims to make art and culture accessible to an ever wider audience.

The show, under the musical direction of Alvise Casellati, will have the reciting voice of Sonia Bergamasco, illustrations by Chiara Tronchin and animations by Heads Collective.

"In this unprecedented Christmas in which we have to give up the moments of physical closeness to which we have always been accustomed - explained Lucia Sciacca, Communication and Sustainability Director of Generali Italia - as Generali we want to be close to families and communities with a concrete gesture. With the Teatro La Fenice, one of our historical partners, thanks to the Generali Valore Cultura project, we bring great music and the atmosphere of the extraordinary Venetian Theater into everyone's homes. This special edition of Prokofiev's musical fairy tale Pierino e il lupo it is a gift for all families which confirms our closeness to cultural institutions. For us this means acting together, with concrete actions, to generate trust ".

Peter and the Wolf by Sergej Prokofiev was staged for the first time on May 2, 1936 at the Nezlobin Theater, the Moscow Children's Theater, with the Moscow Philharmonic and with the composer himself on the podium.

The work was commissioned by Natalia Saz, director of the Theater: director and pedagogue of merit, appreciated both in Russia and abroad by personalities such as Stanislavskij and Klemperer, Saz asked Prokofiev to create a symphonic work whose formal architecture was connected to the narration of a fairy tale: the story of Pierino who, with the help of his animal friends, manages to capture a very ferocious wolf seemed to both of them an excellent starting point for finding good associations with musical instruments.

Peter and the Wolf is in fact not only a fable in music that teaches a 'morality' to children, but also a composition that helps - both children and adults - to understand and learn about the instruments of an orchestra, becoming an indispensable and easy to 'browse' for anyone approaching classical music as a neophyte.

After discarding the idea of using a poetic text in rhythmic stanzas, Prokof'ev preferred to write himself, in prose, a dry and exciting narrative text preceded by a presentation of the melodic profiles attributed to the individual characters, highlighted by precise timbral choices: the flute for the little bird, the oboe for the duck, the clarinet for the cat, the bassoon for the grandfather, the horns for the wolf, the bows for Pierino, the eardrums for the shooting of hunters' guns.

The musical themes of each character are intertwined in the story of the defeat of the wolf, captured and then taken to a cage in the final triumphal procession.
