January 01: 0
January 31: 1
On December 31, 2019, the People's Republic of China reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) that a few dozen cases of pneumonia of unknown cause had occurred in the city of Wuhan, with a population of 11 million.
The authorities suspect that those affected were infected through contact with wild animals at the Huanan Seafood Market.
As of January 5, 2020, there are 59 confirmed cases in China.
In mid-January, the WHO registered the first infection outside the country, a 61-year-old tourist from Wuhan is being treated in Thailand.
On January 21, a hospital in Seattle reports the first infected person in the United States.
Wuhan is fully quarantined.
On January 30, the WHO spoke for the first time of a health emergency of international concern.
The first German case becomes known at the end of January: a man from Bavaria.
Meanwhile, the hundred go about their lives.
Some are already noticing that the world is beginning to change.
The artist Daniel Knorr only sees people in masks on the streets of Hong Kong, Achim Theiler, importer of protective clothing, forces his daughter to break off a trip through Asia, and head doctor Clemens Wendtner treats a man who feels limp and feverish.
