This is probably the most important reason to get vaccinated for Corona

The main reason to get vaccinated against the corona virus is to protect ourselves from a threatening disease.

Vaccines train the immune system - they train the white blood cells and allow us to "learn" to neutralize and eliminate invasive and threatening viruses.

This lesson the immune system learns about a harmless "dummy" virus, and the experience gained by depositors in our "immune memory".

In the event of an encounter with a violent virus in the future, we will recall from memory the recipe learned, respond vigorously and effectively and eliminate the threat.

This is the reason for getting vaccinated - to create an immune memory that will allow us to pick up a personal shield that will block the penetration of the virus.

At the same time, there is another reason to get vaccinated - herd immunity.

Although it is a little less important to us personally, it is much more relevant at the national level, and very important.

Imagine for a second you were transposed into the karmic driven world of Earl.

The fire spreads and burns every plant and tree in its path, and the way to block and stop the spread of the threat, is to "shave" fire paths that divide the forest into isolated areas from each other.

In the absence of combustible material, the fire cannot advance to the next section.

This is exactly what happens when herd immunity is achieved.

Any person infected with the virus allows the threat to multiply in his body, and later spread further and infect another person, who will also infect another person, and so on.

The chain of infection will continue as long as there are single, "naive" people who have not yet encountered the virus and can be infected.

Each infected person, with or without symptoms, develops a personal immune memory as a result of the disease that ensures that he or she will not be infected again in the future.

The same immune memory can, as mentioned, also be obtained by injecting a vaccine.

The more people acquire immune memory, the more "fire paths" are created that block the spread of the virus in society.

At the public health level, it is essential that as many people as possible be protected and equipped with an immune memory by getting a vaccine shot - so that the spreading virus will not find even one person free to catch.

Then, without trees to burn, the threat of the virus will fade and the epidemic will disappear and disappear.

"Natural" herd immunity carries a heavy price

At the beginning of the epidemic, some countries suggested that the virus be spread without intervention, as in the "Swedish" model.

Leaders like Boris Johnson of England, at the beginning of the plague, believed that it was best not to restrict anything, to keep trade open, to send our children to study as usual, and to lead a life without any restrictions or closures.

This policy did not stem from arrogance, but was based on the hope that as the epidemic spread, herd immunity would be built up naturally.

The assumption was that within a reasonable time enough people would be infected so that the spreading virus would not find anyone to infect and the epidemic would go away on its own.

The Swedish model is tempting, but it fails.

What this model does not take into account is the heavy cost of mortality for those who become infected but do not recover.

Even a modest estimate of a mortality rate of one percent, or even half a percent, means that in order to maintain herd immunity in our country naturally, i.e. out of infection and morbidity, it will be necessary to pay a price of at least 50,000 corona victims.

To date, more than 3,200 Israelis have died in the country, more victims than all those killed in the Yom Kippur War.

While building herd immunity naturally sounds attractive and easy, it will come at a heavy and unreasonable price under any circumstances.

How many people need to get vaccinated for life to get back on track?

Vaccination is the only way to create a protector of effective effective immune memory without getting sick and without corona victims.

Everyone who gets vaccinated adds another tier to the country's herd immunity wall.

Admittedly, the main and first reason to get vaccinated is to protect yourself, but in this personal step there is a direct contribution to the protection of the whole.

Only with herd immunity will we be able to eradicate the corona and remove the plague threat.

Keep in mind that without herd immunity, our lives will not return to normal.

We will not be able to spend, walk, live a happy and safe life.

Only when each of us goes to get vaccinated will there be effective herd immunity and we will defeat the corona.

How many people need to be vaccinated in order to create effective herd immunity?

It depends on the virus and its rate of infection.

The corona virus is highly contagious, and the British mutant even more so.

By all models it turns out that effective herd immunity can start when 60 percent of the population is vaccinated, but it is clearly desirable as much as possible.

Go get vaccinated.
