France starts this Sunday… with a train of delay in several other countries.

The United States, the United Kingdom and even Israel, in particular, began to vaccinate their populations against Covid-19 several days or even weeks ago.

In France, the first injections only take place this Sunday, in Sevran and Dijon, to the chagrin of some.

But there was no choice: this date of December 27 has been set for all European countries, forced to follow the calendar of the European Commission.

This Sunday morning, the Our World in Data platform lists ten countries that left before France: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, Israel, Bahrain, Chile, Mexico and Costa Rica .

The data are collected from "official sources (Heads of State, Ministers of Health, public health agencies, public officials in charge of the vaccination campaign, etc.)", explains Edouard Mathieu, the data manager for Our World in Data.

Bahrain and Israel in the lead

What do we observe?

At least 4.7 million vaccines have already been administered worldwide, and Bahrain and Israel are far ahead, based on the number of inhabitants.

The kingdom of the Arabian Gulf has already injected more than 50,000 doses, or more than thirty per 1,000 inhabitants.

In Israel, where the vaccination campaign began Sunday, December 20, we are at 24.1 injections per 1,000 people.

No one has yet received a second dose in the Hebrew country since it takes at least two weeks between the two injections, which are necessary for the vaccination to be effective.

Covid-19: the intention to be vaccinated down sharply

Only the Pfizer-BioNTech alliance vaccine is used there for the moment, just like in the United Kingdom, the first country in the world to have authorized it.

800,000 Britons have already received him in the arm.

Compared to the population, this gives nearly 12 doses per 1000 inhabitants.

Some of them may have already received a second injunction, but this detail is not available.

Then come the United States, where nearly two million people have received a first injection since December 14, or nearly six per 1,000 inhabitants.

In most cases, this is the Pfizer product, but also sometimes the Moderna vaccine, which has been administered since December 21.

The Bloomberg agency gives the details state by state.

In Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Maine, Colorado and West Virginia, more than 1% of residents have already received a dose of the vaccine.

One million people to be vaccinated for phase 1 in France

Concerning Russia and especially China, the data are more questionable due to the lack of transparency shown by the authorities.

On November 19, China already claimed a million doses administered, while the official counter on December 19 is ... one million.

But it was then a program of experimentation, "without waiting for the completion of clinical trials".

In addition, the date of the last update is not the same for all countries, since the authorities do not always communicate daily.

"Figures take a long time to arrive, or are announced a little suddenly on Twitter, or in transcripts of press conferences.

The collection is a bit chaotic ”, summarizes Edouard Mathieu.

Covid-19: the first doses of Pfizer's vaccine have arrived in France

In France, phase 1 of the vaccination is intended for residents living in nursing homes and the staff who take care of them, i.e. one million people.

The government is giving itself "six to eight weeks" to administer both doses.

From mid or end of February, 14 million inhabitants will be affected this time: over 75s, over 65s and finally health and medico-social professionals who are vulnerable because of their age or condition. health.

Hoping that the European Medicines Agency will have authorized by then the placing on the market of more vaccines.

The Moderna file must be examined on January 6, six days before the date originally scheduled.
