(ANSA) - GRENOBLE, 14 JAN - The body of a 40-year-old Italian skier, missing since Wednesday evening, was found on Thursday morning buried in the snow in Courchevel, France, on the mountains of Savoy.
The Alpine rescue services reported this to AFP.
The 40-year-old, who left on Wednesday in the ski resort area for a ski touring excursion, was the victim of an avalanche.
The victim, who has lived in the French region for some time, should have gone yesterday to pick up his son at 4 pm; after a few hours, his disappearance was reported to the competent authorities of Bourg-Saint-Maurice, who started an investigation. The research also continued for part of the night. Finally, the Italian's body was found this morning at 2,200 meters, when they were filmed. He was buried in the snow near the ski area.
This is the first avalanche victim of the season in this area. "After the last snowfall and with the wind, the mantonevoso is particularly unstable. The avalanche risk is 4 on a scale of 5", said Patrice Ribes, commander of the high mountain agendarmerie in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, asking "the maximum caution". (HANDLE).
