(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 26 - The Estonian neopremier Kaja Kallas has sworn with the ministers of her government before the president of the Republic Kersti Kaljulaid.

From today the Baltic country has two women at the top of the state.

Kallas, a 43-year-old lawyer and former European parliamentarian, will lead an executive formed by his reformist party, center-right, winner of last year's elections, and the center-left party.

The two formations on Sunday found an agreement to form a new government to replace the centrist one led by Juri Ratas, which was blown up due to a corruption scandal.

Kallas is the first woman to head the government since Estonia regained independence in '91, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

And it joins the list of leading women in Northern European countries (Lithuania, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Germany).

Kersti Kaljulaid was elected president of the Republic in 2016, becoming the first woman to head the state, as well as the youngest (she was 46 at the time).
