France has decided to go even further when it comes to controlling its borders.
This Friday evening, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced that "any entry or exit from a country outside the European Union will be prohibited", unless there is a compelling reason.
For intra-European travel, the Prime Minister recalled that a PCR test will be systematically requested before departure, except for cross-border workers.
These announcements come as the South African and English variants are spreading to all corners of the world.
In France, their spread has already been established by the health authorities, while the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, for example said on Thursday that around 2,000 people were now infected every day in the country by one of these more contagious variants.
Since January 14, travelers arriving from a country outside the euro area have been forced to provide a negative PCR test dating back less than 72 hours in order to hope to be able to board a plane or a boat.
This measure was extended to 24 travelers for intra-European trips.
