Covid: Belgium, infections are rising, a slight decrease in hospitalizations

The average number of coronavirus infections in Belgium rises. In the period from 20 to 26 January there was a daily average of 2,254 cases. The increase was 14% over the previous week, while the reproduction rate is estimated at 0.92. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JAN 30 - The average number of coronavirus infections in Belgium rises.

In the period from 20 to 26 January there was a daily average of 2,254 cases.


   The increase was 14% over the previous week, while the reproduction rate is estimated at 0.92.

This was reported by data from the daily epidemiological bulletin published by the Institute of Public Health Sciensano, according to the Belgian news agency.


    Slight drop in the number of hospitalizations instead.

Between 23 and 29 January 120 people infected with Sars-Cov-2 were hospitalized on average per day, which represents a decrease of 6% compared to the previous seven-day period.


    Since the beginning of the epidemic in Belgium, 705,120 cases of contagion have been detected, while 21,018 deaths have been reported.


   Between January 20 and January 26, an average of 50.3 people per day died from the coronavirus (-1.4% compared to the previous calculation period).
