With the second wave of Covid, from October to today there have been almost 50,000 (49,274) deaths from Covid-19 in Italy, out of the total of over 85,000 (85,389) recorded since last January.
This is indicated by the report published on the EpiCentro website of the
Istituto Superiore di Sanità
(Iss) and based on the data, updated as of January 27, reported by the Integrated Covid-19 Surveillance coordinated by the same institution.
The approximately 50,000 deaths, the report reads, occurred in the second wave that began in October 2020 and is still ongoing.
In the first wave (March-May 2020), deaths from Covid-19 were 34,278 and 1,837 in the low incidence phase (June-September 2020).
The report also indicates that the average age of SARS-CoV-2 positive deceased patients is 81 years and a total of 941 (1% of deaths recorded since March 2020) deceased patients under the age of 50.
Most of the deaths occurred in Lombardy, with 26,674;
of these, most (16,362) date back to the first wave.
