World War II veteran Sir Tom Moore, who was knighted after raising millions of pounds for British health workers in the first UK lockdown, was admitted to hospital after contracting the coronavirus.
In a tweet on the official centennial account, his daughter said he tested positive last week and was taken to hospital on Sunday.

The daughter of "Captain Tom" says in her message that he was being treated for pneumonia in recent weeks before his positive Covid test result.
“He stayed with us until today, where he needed extra help with breathing,” she explains on Sunday.
Fortunately for him, he is not in intensive care, she says.
"The care he has received in recent weeks has been remarkable and we know that the staff of Bedford Hospital will do everything to ensure that he is well treated and that he returns home quickly", continues the young woman in her message that has become immediately viral across the Channel.
The story of this veteran and the influx of donations he generated had put balm in the hearts of the public in the United Kingdom, the country in Europe most bereaved by SARS-CoV-2 with more than 100,000 dead.
