Associations opposed to the plan to expand the club's training center at the expense of a natural area intend to plant this

To go into battle, they are armed only with spades.

A hundred citizens were to participate this Sunday, January 31 in the afternoon in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) in the operation "Plantation rebellion" at the call of eight environmental associations including Extinction Rébellion, Attac, Nature en city or Alternatiba ANV-COP21.

After launching a petition a few weeks ago, they will plant 300 trees of different species on an agricultural plot threatened by the extension of the Stade Rennais training center.

Cramped over its 12 ha, the latter would like to nibble on others in the La Prévalaye sector, a semi-natural area in the heart of the city, presented as one of the green lungs of the Breton capital.

The rejection of concreteization and "foot business"

This expansion project will be officially presented on February 2 to the La Prévalaye management committee, which brings together elected officials and representatives of the club and associations.

Opponents denounce the “appetites of football business” and reject the concreteization and artificialization of these fertile lands.

They also point the finger at the role played by the municipality.

“Rennes Métropole is damaging our landscapes, destroying our biodiversity, endangering the resilience of our territory.

The plots that were to be allocated to new agricultural projects were frozen because of the Stade Rennais, ”says David Poisot, spokesperson for the La Prévalaye safeguard collective.

According to the latter, the extension does not correspond to any identified need.

He therefore considers wild planting as an “assumed civic and political act”.
