(ANSA) - VERCELLI, 06 FEB - The death of little Matilda, the 22-month-old girl killed in July 2005 by a shot in the back in her home in Roasio, in Vercellse, remains without guilty.

The fifth criminal section of the Cassation declared inadmissible the appeal presented by the lawyers of mother Elena Romani, definitively acquitted for the crime, after the Turin Court of Appeal acquitted the woman's then companion, Antonio Cangialosi in 2018.

There were two of them in the house with the baby.

Sixteen years after his death, therefore, he remains without guilty.

"On our part there is satisfaction, because Romani was acquitted in the three grades with full formula, but there is also great bitterness because we have not been able to give justice to the little girl", commented the lawyers of her mother, Roberto Scheda and Tiberio Massironi, who they speak of "denied justice" for little Matilda. "Now it will be up to science - they conclude - to explain the injuries to the child's liver, kidneys and rib".

   (HANDLE).
