Technology played a fundamental role during the Covid emergency to ensure educational continuity, but there are those who have always bet on e-learning, such as telematic universities, which in 2020 accelerated the pace.

Ten years ago - confirms Danilo Iervolino, president of the Pegaso telematic University and of the Universitas Mercatorum, online training was seen "as exotic, far from the solemn amphitheaters of knowledge", but in full health, social and economic emergency "all universities have embraced digital ".

"In part - underlines Iervolino - it depends on the fact that, suddenly, due to the pandemic, many have discovered the saving action of the web. The country, from technophobe, has become techno-enthusiastic. And it has understood that the new remote methodology is able to effectively complement or replace the old classroom teaching ".

"I am sure - he adds - that future managers will be trained online, with the great opportunities of the web".

The group led by Iervolino in recent months has recorded an average growth of 50 percent with peaks of 150 for the Mercatorum University.

The target audience are "young and old, workers and mothers", who prefer to study remotely, without schedules, even from the tablet or mobile phone, he explains.

The group can count on over two hundred courses, including bachelor's, master's, higher education and certifications.

With over 100,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, the Pegaso Telematic University is the first private university by number of students.

Mercatorum, the online university of the Chambers of Commerce, with over 20,000 members, is the online university with the highest growth rate in the sector.

The methodology allows personalized participation in study paths, support specialists, Tutors, Mentors and Coaches, alongside the teachers and assisting the students during the entire study path.

And in the Covid era, technology made not only teaching possible and necessary, but also remote exams.

"We were the first - explains Iervolino - to launch the exams online with a module invented by us, which allows security, transparency and truthfulness", with a computer with webcam, a good internet connection and the scanning of an identification document, and through biometric facial examination.

A novelty that allowed subscribers to continue their process, without any setback.

E-learning can represent a valid solution to the dissemination of knowledge, but it cannot be solved in the simple online transposition of the study method in the presence and it needs a solid infrastructure.

For this reason Iervolino hopes that in the plan to restart Italy, the resources will be used to reduce the "asymmetries" in the country and the digital divide.
