The six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan is donating part of his considerable fortune to the construction of two hospitals.
He will provide ten million dollars for projects in his hometown of Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina.
The clinic network Novant Health and Jordan have now jointly announced this.
The new hospitals are scheduled to open in early 2022.
The 57-year-old Jordan had previously opened two family clinics in Charlotte, also in North Carolina.
The total donation of the owner of the NBA club Charlotte Hornets now amounts to 17 million dollars, the equivalent of around 14 million euros.
"Everyone should have access to quality health care, regardless of where they live or whether they are insured or not," Jordan said.
More than 4,500 patients have been treated in Charlotte to date.
"Wilmington has a special place in my heart," said the basketball icon.
It is an enrichment "to be able to give something back to the community that has supported me all my life".
Jordan has also already supported famine relief in the United States with two million US dollars, around 1.68 million euros.
