(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 16 - The spokesman for the army of Burma, which on February 1 overthrew Aung San Suu Kyi in a coup, has promised new elections.
This was reported by the Reuters agency.
"Our goal is to go to the vote and hand power to the winning party," General Zaw Min Tun said in the first press conference since the coup.
The army exponent did not provide an election date.
The military imposed a state of emergency in Burma for one year.
