(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 20 - The German archaeologist Gabriel Zuchtriegel, 39, is the new director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. This was announced by the Minister of Culture Franceschin in his first public appearance today at the Colosseum, in the third command at the head of the dicastery of the Roman College. Specialized studies in classical archeology, a doctoral thesis on the archaeological site of Gabi, Zuchtriegel has been guiding the archaeological park of Paestum since 2015, where he also conducted excavation campaigns, unearthing a Doric building which, according to early studies, could have been a temple erected by craftsmen potters, and has worked a lot on the enhancement and relationship with the territory, also making people discuss, in 2016, when he opened the site to weddings with a lot of regulations and tariffs for photos and civil ceremony. "No problem, protection and use are and remain the priority - he then replied to ANSA, citing the case of Vienna where it is possible to get married at the Albertina and at the Kunst Haus - all the income will be devolved on maintenance and research". His profile was chosen by the minister from the triad indicated by the competition commission. Married and father of two children, Zuchtriegel succeeds Massimo Osanna, who since September 2020 has been appointed general director of the museums managed by the State. In Pompeii he already worked for a few months before winning the competition that brought him to Paestum. (HANDLE).
