Minneapolis residents come to lay flowers in tribute to George Floyd as the trial of police officer Derek Chauvin begins


Hundreds of flowers adorn the storefront of Cup Foods in Minneapolis.

It was in front of this store that George Floyd died following his arrest by four police officers on May 25, 2020. The images of his arrest, in which a police officer blocks his neck with his knee for more than eight minutes, had aroused great emotion .

Dozens of demonstrations to protest racism and clashes with police took place across the country over the summer.

Monday, March 8, will open the trial of former white policeman Derek Chauvin charged with the murder of the African-American.

His former colleagues Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao, accused of complicity, will be tried together from August 23.

In Minneapolis, residents are expressing their fears about the verdict of this trial.

“Honestly, I'm scared.

I know in the United States that stuff doesn't work for the people;

cops tend to get away with murdering people, ”says Evelyn Kotsasek.

Quan Cole warns: “I have a feeling this trial could be the time when America can finally do what's right.

And I just have a bad feeling that it won't happen.
